Absolutely gripping from start to finish
I haven't been this invested in characters since I was a kid. Stringer Bell is brilliantly written — you understand exactly why they make terrible decisions. the season-long story arcs that build quietly is the best part of an already excellent show.

Slow start but rewards patience
The Wire takes a few episodes to find its feet. By the time you reach -30-, you understand what the show is going for. David Simon has a long game in mind and it pays off beautifully.

The finale actually delivered
So many shows fail their endings. The Wire stuck the landing. The final episode resolves Avon Barksdale's arc in a way that feels both surprising and inevitable. David Simon clearly knew where this was going from episode one.

The acting is what makes it
Stringer Bell is played with incredible subtlety. You believe every choice they make even when those choices are catastrophic. the ensemble depth across every season is a big reason this show rose above its peers.

A bit overhyped but still very good
The Wire lives up to maybe 80% of the hype. the ensemble depth across every season is genuinely excellent. The systemic inequality element is well done. My only complaint is that things drag slightly in the middle. Still four stars.
