A bit overhyped but still very good
The Office lives up to maybe 80% of the hype. the perfect use of the mockumentary format is genuinely excellent. The cringe comedy element is well done. My only complaint is that things drag slightly in the middle. Still four stars.

Changed how I think about television drama
The Office showed me what television can do. The workplace relationships storyline is handled with more intelligence than most films. the perfect use of the mockumentary format elevates the whole thing. Required viewing for anyone who cares about storytelling.

Genuinely difficult to watch at times — in a good way
The Office doesn't let you off the hook. the Jim and Pam relationship arc is genuinely uncomfortable in ways few shows dare to be. It respects the audience's intelligence. Dinner Party is just astonishing television.

The writing is extraordinary
Every line of dialogue in The Office has purpose. Greg Daniels and the writers' room craft scenes where subtext carries more weight than text. The episode Casino Night is one of the best hours of television I've ever seen.

Good but not the greatest ever
The Office is excellent television but I wouldn't rank it as the all-time greatest. the perfect use of the mockumentary format is legitimately fantastic but some middle episodes lose momentum. Worth watching absolutely, just with tempered expectations.

The Office takes a few episodes to find its feet. By the time you reach Casino Night, you understand what the show is going for. Greg Daniels has a long game in mind and it pays off beautifully.
