Batman (1989)

I first watched Batman as a teenager and thought it was fine. Rewatched at 30 and it hit completely differently. The Gothic Gotham as psychological space undercurrent makes total sense now in a way it didn't before.

Every choice in Batman feels deliberate. The framing, the pacing, the parade sequence — Tim Burton is operating at a level most filmmakers never reach. It's the kind of film you study rather than just watch.

I've seen Batman multiple times now and it just keeps getting better. Prince's soundtrack is something rarely matched in cinema. If you haven't watched it yet, clear your evening.

Everyone told me to watch Batman for years. Finally did and instantly understood why. the Tim Burton Gothic aesthetic is immediately apparent. Now I'm recommending it just as loudly to everyone else.
