The ending absolutely floored me

The Big Lebowski builds so carefully to its conclusion that when it arrives you feel genuinely moved. The bowling as philosophy thread pays off in a way that's earned rather than manipulative. Couldn't sleep afterward.

Hard to watch but impossible to look away

The Big Lebowski deals with the absurdity of Los Angeles in a way that's genuinely uncomfortable at times. But that discomfort is the point. Joel and Ethan Coen never lets you look away, and the film is better for it.

The craft behind this film is astonishing

Every choice in The Big Lebowski feels deliberate. The framing, the pacing, Walter scattering Donny's ashes — Joel and Ethan Coen is operating at a level most filmmakers never reach. It's the kind of film you study rather than just watch.
