One of the greatest films ever made

I've seen Mad Max: Fury Road multiple times now and it just keeps getting better. the relentless kinetic energy is something rarely matched in cinema. If you haven't watched it yet, clear your evening.

The score elevates every scene

The music in Mad Max: Fury Road is so deeply married to the images that you almost can't separate them. It stays in your head days later and when you hear it again the emotions return immediately.

The craft behind this film is astonishing

Every choice in Mad Max: Fury Road feels deliberate. The framing, the pacing, the flamethrower guitar chase — George Miller is operating at a level most filmmakers never reach. It's the kind of film you study rather than just watch.

Dated in some ways but still powerful

Some elements of Mad Max: Fury Road show their age, but the core of it — female liberation, Charlize Theron's Furiosa — hasn't diminished at all. Films this good age better than almost anything else.

Disappointed given the reputation

Mad Max: Fury Road is technically accomplished and I understand its place in film history. But it left me cold. The female liberation element felt mechanical and I never connected emotionally. Maybe I'll try again someday.

Mad Max: Fury Road commits to a conclusion that not everyone will appreciate. I found it perfectly right — it refuses easy comfort. If you want tidy resolution you may be frustrated. If you want truth, it delivers.

Watched it blind and was blown away

I went into Mad Max: Fury Road knowing nothing — no trailer, no plot summary. I strongly recommend that approach. The the resource wars of the future hits much harder when you haven't been primed for it. Go in cold.
