Three weeks in Thailand — here is what I actually think
Three weeks is long enough to get past the tourist surface in Thailand. The first week I was in Koh Samui and the big sites like Wat Arun. The second and third I went further and slower. The food evolution was interesting — green curry everywhere but prepared so differently by region.

The food in Thailand changed how I think about travel
I travel for food more than anything else, and Thailand shot straight to the top of my culinary travel list. mango sticky rice alone justified the flight, but that was just the beginning. The variety and quality in Krabi is relentless — I didn't have a single disappointing meal in 16 days.

Unexpected emotional depth in Thailand
I thought I was going to Thailand for beaches, food, and White Temple. I got all of those things. What I didn't expect was how emotionally affecting the trip would be. The history — particularly around Chiang Mai — hit in ways that good travel sometimes does.

Family holiday in Thailand — kids loved it, parents survived
Took the family to Thailand for 11 days and it worked better than I'd hoped. The kids were fascinated by Wat Arun — more than I expected from children who usually resist sightseeing. Food was manageable: even the pickiest eater in our group found things to eat, and massaman curry went down well with…

Mixed experience in Thailand — beautiful but overhyped
Thailand is undeniably beautiful. Wat Phra Kaew and the area around Koh Samui have a visual quality that photographs don't capture fully. I enjoyed massaman curry and appreciated beautiful islands. That's all real.

Photography trip to Thailand — every frame a gift
I came to Thailand specifically for photography and the country delivered material at every turn. Wat Phra Kaew at dawn was everything I'd hoped. Chiang Rai's streets at dusk are an endless source of light and texture. The people, once comfortable with a camera, are extraordinary subjects.

Weekend in Bangkok, Thailand — more than I expected from a short trip
Only had a long weekend — about 13 days — in Thailand, based in Bangkok. More than enough to fall for the place. Did Wat Arun on day one and spent the rest of the time just walking and eating. The mango sticky rice situation here is no joke — some of the best eating I've done anywhere.

Would not rush back to Thailand — overcrowded islands in peak season was a real issue
I wanted to love Thailand more than I did. The positives exist: Wat Arun is genuinely impressive, Chiang Mai has moments of real charm, and green curry is as good as people say.
But overcrowded islands in peak season was a persistent problem throughout the trip and dragged the experience down. I've…

Disappointed by the tourist experience around Doi Inthanon
Doi Inthanon in Thailand is extraordinary — the scale and history hit you immediately. But the experience around it has been thoroughly commercialised. Getting there, navigating the crowds, and dealing with persistent sellers around Chiang Rai centre made it more stressful than it should be.

Honest thoughts on Thailand after my first visit
First time in Thailand and I tried to approach it with open eyes rather than preconceptions. Chiang Mai was the base and a good one — central, manageable, and with strong food options including the best som tum I've ever had. Phi Phi Islands was the big set piece and fully justified the trip.
