The people of South Korea are the real highlight
I've been to a lot of countries and the thing I'll remember most about South Korea isn't Bukchon Hanok Village or even the extraordinary japchae — it's the people. In Seoul and out in the countryside, I encountered a warmth and generosity that felt completely genuine.
One local family essentially a…

Honest review after 6 days — mostly great, a few gripes
Visited South Korea for 6 days. The positives are real: Jeju Haenyeo is every bit as impressive as advertised, and the food scene around Jeju Island is genuinely excellent — try tteokbokki if you haven't. ultra-modern infrastructure was an unexpected bonus.
That said, language barrier outside Seoul…

Good country, exhausting tourist industry
South Korea is a genuinely beautiful and interesting place. Jeju Haenyeo is worth every superlative thrown at it. The Korean BBQ is legitimately excellent. K-pop and beauty culture gave the trip real depth.
What I struggled with: the tourist infrastructure around the headline sites in Incheon is re…

Returned to South Korea for the third time — keeps getting better
This was my third visit to South Korea and I keep finding new reasons to return. This time I explored beyond Seoul and discovered a completely different side of the country. Jeju Haenyeo never loses its impact no matter how many times you've seen it.
The food still makes me happy in ways I can't fu…

Solo trip to South Korea: everything you need to know
Did 17 days solo in South Korea and found it extremely manageable as a solo traveller. The transport network around Jeju Island is decent and getting to Jeju Haenyeo independently was straightforward. Met fellow travellers easily and locals were generally happy to chat.

Food was manageable: even the pickiest eater in our group found things to eat, and kimchi jjigae went down we…

Unexpected emotional depth in South Korea
I thought I was going to South Korea for beaches, food, and Haeundae Beach. I got all of those things. What I didn't expect was how emotionally affecting the trip would be. The history — particularly around Gyeongju — hit in ways that good travel sometimes does.
K-pop and beauty culture was the mom…

Would not rush back to South Korea — vegetarians have limited options was a real issue
I wanted to love South Korea more than I did. The positives exist: Bulguksa Temple is genuinely impressive, Gyeongju has moments of real charm, and tteokbokki is as good as people say.
But vegetarians have limited options was a persistent problem throughout the trip and dragged the experience down.…

Honeymoon in South Korea — Incheon and the countryside delivered everything
We chose South Korea for our honeymoon and it was perfect for us. The romantic atmosphere in Incheon at night, the drama of Haeundae Beach, the intimacy of small restaurants serving japchae — all of it added up to exactly what we were hoping for.

South Korea in shoulder season — best decision I made
Visited South Korea in shoulder season deliberately and the decision paid off completely. Haeundae Beach without peak crowds is a totally different experience. Gyeongju felt lived-in rather than touristy. Found a small place doing the best Korean BBQ I've ever tasted — something that would have been…
