Portugal in shoulder season — best decision I made
Visited Portugal in shoulder season deliberately and the decision paid off completely. Duoro Valley vineyards without peak crowds is a totally different experience. Lisbon felt lived-in rather than touristy. Found a small place doing the best Port wine I've ever tasted — something that would have be…

Three weeks in Portugal — here is what I actually think
Three weeks is long enough to get past the tourist surface in Portugal. The first week I was in Faro and the big sites like Duoro Valley vineyards. The second and third I went further and slower. The food evolution was interesting — Port wine everywhere but prepared so differently by region.

Honest review after 17 days — mostly great, a few gripes
Visited Portugal for 17 days. The positives are real: Jerónimos Monastery is every bit as impressive as advertised, and the food scene around Lisbon is genuinely excellent — try grilled sardines if you haven't. stunning Atlantic coastline was an unexpected bonus.
That said, getting around Algarve w…

What nobody tells you about visiting Portugal
After a lot of research I thought I knew what to expect from Portugal. Some things matched: Pena Palace is as spectacular as every review says, and Faro has a genuine energy I'd read about. The Port wine obsession is completely justified.
What I wasn't prepared for: affordable compared to Western E…

Honest thoughts on Portugal after my first visit
First time in Portugal and I tried to approach it with open eyes rather than preconceptions. Porto was the base and a good one — central, manageable, and with strong food options including the best francesinha I've ever had. Cape Sagres was the big set piece and fully justified the trip.

What I struggled with: the tourist infrastructure around the headline sites in Faro is relentle…

Returned to Portugal for the third time — keeps getting better
This was my third visit to Portugal and I keep finding new reasons to return. This time I explored beyond Lisbon and discovered a completely different side of the country. Jerónimos Monastery never loses its impact no matter how many times you've seen it.
The food still makes me happy in ways I can…

Weekend in Sintra, Portugal — more than I expected from a short trip
Only had a long weekend — about 19 days — in Portugal, based in Sintra. More than enough to fall for the place. Did Pena Palace on day one and spent the rest of the time just walking and eating. The pastel de nata situation here is no joke — some of the best eating I've done anywhere.

Arrived with low expectations, left completely converted
Portugal wasn't high on my travel list. A friend pushed me to go and I'm genuinely grateful. The first full day in Porto reset everything — the scale of Tower of Belém and the quality of the Port wine were immediate signals that I'd misjudged the place completely.
