Nepal in shoulder season — best decision I made
Visited Nepal in shoulder season deliberately and the decision paid off completely. Annapurna Circuit without peak crowds is a totally different experience. Pokhara felt lived-in rather than touristy. Found a small place doing the best thukpa noodle soup I've ever tasted — something that would have …

The food in Nepal changed how I think about travel
I travel for food more than anything else, and Nepal shot straight to the top of my culinary travel list. sel roti alone justified the flight, but that was just the beginning. The variety and quality in Bhaktapur is relentless — I didn't have a single disappointing meal in 21 days.

Honest thoughts on Nepal after my first visit
First time in Nepal and I tried to approach it with open eyes rather than preconceptions. Namche Bazaar was the base and a good one — central, manageable, and with strong food options including the best momo dumplings I've ever had. Everest Base Camp was the big set piece and fully justified the tri…

Photography trip to Nepal — every frame a gift
I came to Nepal specifically for photography and the country delivered material at every turn. Boudhanath Stupa at dawn was everything I'd hoped. Bhaktapur's streets at dusk are an endless source of light and texture. The people, once comfortable with a camera, are extraordinary subjects.

Did Nepal on a shoestring for 11 days and it was absolutely manageable. Based in cheap guesthouses near Kathmandu centre and ate mostly at local spots — sel roti from street stalls cost almost nothing and was better than anything in a tourist restaurant.

Disappointed by the tourist experience around Annapurna Circuit
Annapurna Circuit in Nepal is extraordinary — the scale and history hit you immediately. But the experience around it has been thoroughly commercialised. Getting there, navigating the crowds, and dealing with persistent sellers around Bhaktapur centre made it more stressful than it should be.

Good country, exhausting tourist industry
Nepal is a genuinely beautiful and interesting place. Boudhanath Stupa is worth every superlative thrown at it. The dal bhat is legitimately excellent. world-class trekking gave the trip real depth.
What I struggled with: the tourist infrastructure around the headline sites in Pokhara is relentless…

Namche Bazaar surprised me completely on this trip to Nepal
I went to Nepal with modest expectations and left completely won over, largely thanks to time spent in Namche Bazaar. The city has a pace and character that travel guides undersell. Found a great spot for dal bhat on day two and went back every day after that.
Annapurna Circuit was the big planned …

Honeymoon in Nepal — Chitwan and the countryside delivered everything
We chose Nepal for our honeymoon and it was perfect for us. The romantic atmosphere in Chitwan at night, the drama of Boudhanath Stupa, the intimacy of small restaurants serving momo dumplings — all of it added up to exactly what we were hoping for.
Himalayas are beyond description became an unexpe…
