Returned to Japan for the third time — keeps getting better
This was my third visit to Japan and I keep finding new reasons to return. This time I explored beyond Hiroshima and discovered a completely different side of the country. Shibuya Crossing never loses its impact no matter how many times you've seen it.
The food still makes me happy in ways I can't …

The people of Japan are the real highlight
I've been to a lot of countries and the thing I'll remember most about Japan isn't Mt. Fuji or even the extraordinary matcha everything — it's the people. In Kyoto and out in the countryside, I encountered a warmth and generosity that felt completely genuine.
One local family essentially adopted me…

What nobody tells you about visiting Japan
After a lot of research I thought I knew what to expect from Japan. Some things matched: Mt. Fuji is as spectacular as every review says, and Hiroshima has a genuine energy I'd read about. The sushi obsession is completely justified.
What I wasn't prepared for: extraordinary cleanliness and order. …

Arrived with low expectations, left completely converted
Japan wasn't high on my travel list. A friend pushed me to go and I'm genuinely grateful. The first full day in Kyoto reset everything — the scale of Fushimi Inari Shrine and the quality of the ramen were immediate signals that I'd misjudged the place completely.

Honest thoughts on Japan after my first visit
First time in Japan and I tried to approach it with open eyes rather than preconceptions. Tokyo was the base and a good one — central, manageable, and with strong food options including the best matcha everything I've ever had. Nara surprised me completely on this trip to Japan
I went to Japan with modest expectations and left completely won over, largely thanks to time spent in Nara. The city has a pace and character that travel guides undersell. Found a great spot for matcha everything on day two and went back every day after that.
Fushimi Inari Shrine was the big plann…

Photography trip to Japan — every frame a gift
I came to Japan specifically for photography and the country delivered material at every turn. Fushimi Inari Shrine at dawn was everything I'd hoped. Tokyo's streets at dusk are an endless source of light and texture. The people, once comfortable with a camera, are extraordinary subjects.

Honeymoon in Japan — Hiroshima and the countryside delivered everything
We chose Japan for our honeymoon and it was perfect for us. The romantic atmosphere in Hiroshima at night, the drama of Hiroshima Peace Memorial, the intimacy of small restaurants serving tempura — all of it added up to exactly what we were hoping for.

Honest review after 6 days — mostly great, a few gripes
Visited Japan for 6 days. The positives are real: Mt. Fuji is every bit as impressive as advertised, and the food scene around Tokyo is genuinely excellent — try ramen if you haven't. seamless public transport was an unexpected bonus.
That said, cash-heavy society. It's not a dealbreaker but worth …

Three weeks in Japan — here is what I actually think
Three weeks is long enough to get past the tourist surface in Japan. The first week I was in Tokyo and the big sites like Mt. Fuji. The second and third I went further and slower. The food evolution was interesting — matcha everything everywhere but prepared so differently by region.
