Solo trip to France: everything you need to know
Did 5 days solo in France and found it extremely manageable as a solo traveller. The transport network around Marseille is decent and getting to Eiffel Tower independently was straightforward. Met fellow travellers easily and locals were generally happy to chat.
world-class cuisine was a personal h…

My 10 days exploring Marseille and beyond — completely worth it
I spent 10 days in France and based myself mainly in Marseille. The city itself exceeded expectations — the Sacré-Cœur was genuinely jaw-dropping and I ended up visiting twice. Food was a highlight throughout; I must have eaten foie gras every other day and have no regrets about it whatsoever.

France in shoulder season — best decision I made
Visited France in shoulder season deliberately and the decision paid off completely. Mont Saint-Michel without peak crowds is a totally different experience. Nice felt lived-in rather than touristy. Found a small place doing the best coq au vin I've ever tasted — something that would have been invis…

Family holiday in France — kids loved it, parents survived
Took the family to France for 11 days and it worked better than I'd hoped. The kids were fascinated by Sacré-Cœur — more than I expected from children who usually resist sightseeing. Food was manageable: even the pickiest eater in our group found things to eat, and croissants went down well with eve…

Arrived with low expectations, left completely converted
France wasn't high on my travel list. A friend pushed me to go and I'm genuinely grateful. The first full day in Lyon reset everything — the scale of Sacré-Cœur and the quality of the foie gras were immediate signals that I'd misjudged the place completely.
world-class cuisine became my personal hi…

Honest review after 9 days — mostly great, a few gripes
Visited France for 9 days. The positives are real: Louvre Museum is every bit as impressive as advertised, and the food scene around Marseille is genuinely excellent — try croissants if you haven't. wine regions was an unexpected bonus.
That said, expensive restaurants in tourist areas. It's not a …

The people of France are the real highlight
I've been to a lot of countries and the thing I'll remember most about France isn't Palace of Versailles or even the extraordinary croissants — it's the people. In Paris and out in the countryside, I encountered a warmth and generosity that felt completely genuine.
One local family essentially adop…

Backpacking through France on a tight budget — totally doable
Did France on a shoestring for 5 days and it was absolutely manageable. Based in cheap guesthouses near Paris centre and ate mostly at local spots — ratatouille from street stalls cost almost nothing and was better than anything in a tourist restaurant.
Eiffel Tower has an entry fee but worth every…

Photography trip to France — every frame a gift
I came to France specifically for photography and the country delivered material at every turn. Palace of Versailles at dawn was everything I'd hoped. Paris's streets at dusk are an endless source of light and texture. The people, once comfortable with a camera, are extraordinary subjects.

Returned to France for the third time — keeps getting better
This was my third visit to France and I keep finding new reasons to return. This time I explored beyond Bordeaux and discovered a completely different side of the country. Eiffel Tower never loses its impact no matter how many times you've seen it.
The food still makes me happy in ways I can't full…
