Sharm el-Sheikh surprised me completely on this trip to Egypt
I went to Egypt with modest expectations and left completely won over, largely thanks to time spent in Sharm el-Sheikh. The city has a pace and character that travel guides undersell. Found a great spot for om ali on day two and went back every day after that.
Egyptian Museum was the big planned ex…

Photography trip to Egypt — every frame a gift
I came to Egypt specifically for photography and the country delivered material at every turn. Karnak Temple at dawn was everything I'd hoped. Sharm el-Sheikh's streets at dusk are an endless source of light and texture. The people, once comfortable with a camera, are extraordinary subjects.

Egypt in shoulder season — best decision I made
Visited Egypt in shoulder season deliberately and the decision paid off completely. Karnak Temple without peak crowds is a totally different experience. Aswan felt lived-in rather than touristy. Found a small place doing the best ta'meya I've ever tasted — something that would have been invisible in…

Unexpected emotional depth in Egypt
I thought I was going to Egypt for beaches, food, and Abu Simbel. I got all of those things. What I didn't expect was how emotionally affecting the trip would be. The history — particularly around Sharm el-Sheikh — hit in ways that good travel sometimes does.
warm winter weather was the moment that…

The people of Egypt are the real highlight
I've been to a lot of countries and the thing I'll remember most about Egypt isn't Abu Simbel or even the extraordinary ta'meya — it's the people. In Luxor and out in the countryside, I encountered a warmth and generosity that felt completely genuine.
One local family essentially adopted me for an …

Honest review after 18 days — mostly great, a few gripes
Visited Egypt for 18 days. The positives are real: Great Pyramids of Giza is every bit as impressive as advertised, and the food scene around Alexandria is genuinely excellent — try ta'meya if you haven't. warm winter weather was an unexpected bonus.
That said, persistent tourist touts everywhere. …

We chose Egypt for our honeymoon and it was perfect for us. The romantic atmosphere in Cairo at night, the drama of Egyptian Museum, the intimacy of small restaurants serving om ali — all of it added up to exactly what we were hoping for.

Solo trip to Egypt: everything you need to know
Did 9 days solo in Egypt and found it extremely manageable as a solo traveller. The transport network around Sharm el-Sheikh is decent and getting to Great Pyramids of Giza independently was straightforward. Met fellow travellers easily and locals were generally happy to chat.

The food in Egypt changed how I think about travel
I travel for food more than anything else, and Egypt shot straight to the top of my culinary travel list. om ali alone justified the flight, but that was just the beginning. The variety and quality in Cairo is relentless — I didn't have a single disappointing meal in 6 days.
Karnak Temple gave cont…

Arrived with low expectations, left completely converted
Egypt wasn't high on my travel list. A friend pushed me to go and I'm genuinely grateful. The first full day in Sharm el-Sheikh reset everything — the scale of Abu Simbel and the quality of the ful medames were immediate signals that I'd misjudged the place completely.
warm winter weather became my…
