The Himalayan is a pointed version of the Persian, produced by crossing Persians with Siamese to introduce the colourpoint coat pattern and blue eyes. The result is a cat that combines Persian calm and long coat with Siamese colouring — and a personality that sits between the two parent breeds. Himalayans are gentle, quiet, and beautiful, but their flat face and long coat come with real care responsibilities.

Pros

  • Strikingly beautiful — vivid blue eyes against a colourpoint coat
  • Extremely calm and gentle temperament
  • Deeply affectionate and devoted companion
  • Quiet and well-suited to calm, peaceful households
  • Good with older children and other gentle pets

Cons

  • Daily grooming is absolutely essential — coat mats without it
  • Brachycephalic face causes breathing issues, tear staining, and heat sensitivity
  • Susceptible to polycystic kidney disease — genetic testing essential
  • High maintenance overall — not for busy or low-commitment owners

Companion!

Companion! Our cat's name is Bella. She is 3 years old. She is a full member of our family. The worst thing for our pet is to be left alone. That's why we never leave her alone at home.

Fluffy miracle)

A fluffy miracle) I bought a cat of this breed absolutely by accident and I’m very glad that it happened this way. I saw her and fell in love with those blue eyes.

A fluffy miracle, calm but capricious.

A fluffy miracle, calm, but willful. The cat Oscar of the Himalayan breed came to us as an adult cat - he was picked up from the street. He was trained to the tray relatively easily.
