The Birman — or Sacred Birman — is a silky, semi-long-haired breed with a gentle, inquisitive personality and distinctive white 'glove' markings on all four paws. According to legend, they were the sacred companions of Burmese temple priests. Modern Birmans are known for their beautiful blue eyes, affectionate nature, and calm adaptability — a breed that integrates gracefully into virtually any household.

Pros

  • Gentle, patient, and consistently sweet-natured
  • Silky semi-long coat is less prone to matting than Persian or Ragdoll
  • Beautiful blue eyes and distinctive white gloves
  • Warm and affectionate without being clingy
  • Good with children, elderly people, and other pets

Cons

  • Semi-long coat still needs regular brushing, 2–3 times per week
  • Can be prone to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy — choose health-tested lines
  • Slower to warm up to strangers than some breeds
  • Loves routine — can be unsettled by major changes
