Returned to Taekwondo after injury — the comeback experience
I'd been training Taekwondo for two years when I picked up an injury that kept me out for four months. Coming back was harder mentally than physically. My spinning heel kick had regressed and pattern memorisation I'd taken for granted needed rebuilding.
first sparring session was what brought me back to myself — about six weeks into the comeback. underdeveloped hand techniques relative to kicks was a greater factor in the comeback phase than it had been before injury. I'm now back to pre-injury level and training smarter. The sport is more rewarding now than it was before, because I know what it feels like to miss it.
