Overrated for fitness, underrated for everything else
Purely as a fitness tool, Rock Climbing is good but not exceptional. There are more efficient ways to get fit. Where Rock Climbing is genuinely underrated is everything else: the smearing problem-solving, the sport climbing depth, how footwork transforms everything. These aren't fitness outcomes — they're life outcomes.
expensive trad climbing gear is the honest downside that the fitness crowd often glosses over. If you're coming for abs and cardio, you'll get decent results but maybe not optimal ones. If you're coming for something that changes how you think and move and manage stress, Rock Climbing is exceptional value.
