Tried Karate expecting one thing, found something completely different

I signed up for Karate expecting a straightforward fitness class. What I found was a technical discipline that demands real skill development. The gedan-barai lower block I was shown in week one is still something I'm refining now, 11 months later. kata forms gave me a framework for understanding why things work, not just what to do.

kumite opening up after basics click was the surprise that hooked me. the split between traditional and sport karate schools was the reality check that made me respect the sport. The sparring gloves is worth the investment — don't cut corners. I came for fitness and found a practice. That's a much better outcome.
