Watching Ilias Iliadis made me start — training made me stay

5 out of 5

I got into Judo after watching Ilias Iliadis compete and thinking I wanted a piece of that. Reality check: what they make look effortless takes years of work. The seoi-nage shoulder throw I admired on screen took me 5 months just to do passably.

But somewhere in that process I stopped caring about looking like Ilias Iliadis and started caring about my own progress with ippon. That shift is when Judo really got its hooks in me. how hip positioning changes everything is the part nobody sees in the highlights. finding competitive clubs outside Japan or France is the part nobody mentions either. Both are real. Both are worth knowing.
