I've been competing in CrossFit for three years now, training five days a week. I want to give an honest picture of what the competitive path looks like.

The technical demands compound. Olympic lifting in metcons at beginner level and at competition level are almost different skills. Understanding box culture deeply enough to deploy it under pressure takes years, not months. Studying Patrick Vellner's approach changed how I think about the game entirely. Open season competition is what makes it worth the commitment. cult-like culture in some boxes is the tax you pay. Not everyone needs to compete — but if you have the itch, chase it. It will make you better in every direction.
