Beginner success with Purple Coneflower — here is what helped
As a complete beginner I was nervous about starting with Purple Coneflower. It turned out to be more forgiving than I expected, as long as I paid attention to sowing directly into poor soil as rich soil encourages weeds.
I grow mine in a naturalistic border at the edge of a garden which is working really well. exceptional wildlife value for bees, butterflies, and hoverflies was a genuine surprise — I didn't expect it to look or perform like that. cutting back meadow areas in autumn to remove thatch has been the highlight so far. My biggest mistake early on was ignoring poor germination in compacted or clay soils, which I'd recommend addressing immediately.
