I'd had Purple Coneflower for about eight months with acceptable but unremarkable results. Then I started really paying attention to sowing directly into poor soil as rich soil encourages weeds and the difference over the next two months was dramatic.

exceptional wildlife value for bees, butterflies, and hoverflies became much more pronounced. The plant in a wildflower meadow replacing lawn areas now looks like a completely different specimen. peak flowering from early to midsummer confirmed that I'd finally unlocked what this plant can do. rabbits and slugs targeting young seedlings has been less of a problem since I got the overall conditions right. If your Purple Coneflower is underwhelming, look at sowing directly into poor soil as rich soil encourages weeds first.
