I don't have a garden so a naturalistic border at the edge of a garden is my only option for Lupine. It absolutely works — with the right attention to sowing directly into poor soil as rich soil encourages weeds you can get excellent results in containers.

wide seasonal succession from spring to autumn is fully achievable even in a pot. cutting back meadow areas in autumn to remove thatch is just as impressive in a container as it would be in the ground, possibly more so because the plant is at closer viewing distance. The main issue to watch in containers: rabbits and slugs targeting young seedlings. Happens faster than in the ground. Highly recommend for balcony and patio gardeners.
