I nearly gave up on Cosmos after three months of mediocre results. Then I focused properly on sowing directly into poor soil as rich soil encourages weeds and within a few weeks the difference was dramatic.

It now lives in a naturalistic border at the edge of a garden and has genuinely transformed that spot. wide seasonal succession from spring to autumn is even more impressive in person than I expected from photos. cutting back meadow areas in autumn to remove thatch was spectacular — worth every bit of patience. If you're struggling with yours, sowing directly into poor soil as rich soil encourages weeds is almost certainly the issue.
