Overrated for ease, underrated for beauty — Wisteria

People describe Wisteria as easy and I'd push back on that slightly. feeding with a high-potassium fertiliser in summer to encourage flowering needs consistent attention and pruning at the wrong time removing next season's flower buds can undermine progress quickly if ignored.

Where Wisteria is genuinely underrated is the beauty. dramatic seasonal transformations from bare stems to full cover is extraordinary when you see it in person. I display it in a pergola or arch creating a garden feature and it gets comments from everyone who sees it. peak flowering display in summer is the time to really understand what this plant offers. Not for the truly neglectful gardener, but absolutely worth the attention it requires.
