I brought Virginia Creeper home six months ago with high hopes and almost no knowledge. The first challenge was understanding feeding with a high-potassium fertiliser in summer to encourage flowering — something I hadn't expected to matter so much. Once I got that right, the whole thing settled down.

I grow it in a pergola or arch creating a garden feature and the position has been ideal. vertical growing habit maximising space in small gardens is what keeps drawing me back to it. bare structure in winter revealing the interesting stem framework was the moment that made me glad I persisted through the learning curve. One honest warning: roots disturbing foundations if planted too close to buildings caught me off guard in month two. Stay on top of it from the start.
