Three things I wish someone had told me before growing Virginia Creeper
After growing Virginia Creeper for over a year here is what I'd tell a beginner.
First: training new growth to the support structure while still flexible is not optional — it's the foundation everything else depends on. Second: support structure failing under the weight of mature growth will happen and you should know how to handle it before it does. Third: a boundary wall or fence for screening and softening genuinely matters — the right position unlocks many varieties offering fragrance, colour, and wildlife value in a way a poor position never will. bud break and rapid early growth in spring is the payoff for getting all of this right. It's worth every bit of effort.
