Honest review: Virginia Creeper is rewarding but support structure failing under the weight of mature growth is real

Virginia Creeper is a genuinely satisfying plant to grow, but I want to be upfront about one thing: support structure failing under the weight of mature growth. I've dealt with it twice now and it takes consistent attention to manage.

Beyond that, many varieties offering fragrance, colour, and wildlife value makes it one of my favourites in the collection. I keep it in a boundary wall or fence for screening and softening which suits it well. Learning about feeding with a high-potassium fertiliser in summer to encourage flowering has been essential. bud break and rapid early growth in spring is worth waiting for — the plant really justifies itself then. Four stars because of that persistent issue.
