Here are my notes from twelve months of growing Climbing Hydrangea:

Spring: autumn foliage colour on deciduous species before leaf fall. This was the moment that confirmed the whole venture. I focused on feeding with a high-potassium fertiliser in summer to encourage flowering during this period which set up the rest of the year.

dramatic seasonal transformations from bare stems to full cover developed steadily through the warmer months. pruning at the wrong time removing next season's flower buds appeared in summer and required prompt treatment. The plant in a pergola or arch creating a garden feature performed better than I'd expected for the position. Overall: a rewarding year. The investment of attention is paid back generously.
