The care secret that transformed my Clematis

I'd had Clematis for about eight months with acceptable but unremarkable results. Then I started really paying attention to providing a robust support structure before planting and the difference over the next two months was dramatic.

dramatic seasonal transformations from bare stems to full cover became much more pronounced. The plant in a tree stump or old structure being naturalised now looks like a completely different specimen. bare structure in winter revealing the interesting stem framework confirmed that I'd finally unlocked what this plant can do. support structure failing under the weight of mature growth has been less of a problem since I got the overall conditions right. If your Clematis is underwhelming, look at providing a robust support structure before planting first.
