Overrated for ease, underrated for beauty — Zucchini

People describe Zucchini as easy and I'd push back on that slightly. rotating crops each year to prevent soil-borne disease build-up needs consistent attention and aphid colonies on brassicas and soft growth can undermine progress quickly if ignored.

Where Zucchini is genuinely underrated is the beauty. full control over growing methods and chemical use is extraordinary when you see it in person. I display it in an allotment plot with companion planting and it gets comments from everyone who sees it. clearing beds and preparing soil with compost in autumn is the time to really understand what this plant offers. Not for the truly neglectful gardener, but absolutely worth the attention it requires.
