Started Kale at the wrong time — lessons learned
I planted Kale at entirely the wrong point in the growing calendar and spent the first few months wondering what I'd done wrong. aphid colonies on brassicas and soft growth didn't help matters. Once I understood feeding with a high-potassium fertiliser once flowering begins things improved substantially.
satisfaction of harvesting food you grew yourself is what makes this plant worth persisting with. In an allotment plot with companion planting it finally looks as good as I'd imagined. clearing beds and preparing soil with compost in autumn redeemed the whole effort. If you're starting out: do your timing research before you plant.
