I don't have a garden so an allotment plot with companion planting is my only option for Cucumber. It absolutely works — with the right attention to consistent deep watering rather than frequent shallow watering you can get excellent results in containers.

far superior flavour versus supermarket produce is fully achievable even in a pot. peak harvest in mid to late summer is just as impressive in a container as it would be in the ground, possibly more so because the plant is at closer viewing distance. The main issue to watch in containers: slug and snail damage on young seedlings. Happens faster than in the ground. Highly recommend for balcony and patio gardeners.
