The unexpected joy of growing Heliconia

I planted Heliconia without expecting much and it's become one of the most satisfying things in my garden. natural air-purifying properties noted in indoor conditions is something I couldn't have predicted from looking at it in a nursery. You only understand it once the plant is established and performing.

I keep it in a warm humid conservatory or heated greenhouse which is perfect for it. maintaining temperatures above 15°C throughout the year was the thing I got lucky getting right early. bringing back indoors before first autumn frost stopped me in my tracks the first time I saw it. failure to flower indoors without sufficient light intensity is a real thing — just check regularly and deal with it quickly.
