My first attempt at Heliconia failed — failure to flower indoors without sufficient light intensity got hold of it and I didn't know what I was looking at until it was too late. I left it alone for a year before trying again.

The second attempt, with proper attention to providing high humidity through pebble trays or regular misting, has been completely different. It's now thriving in a bathroom with high natural light and steam humidity and exotic appearance that transforms any indoor or outdoor space is on full display. bringing back indoors before first autumn frost this year was a genuine reward for starting again. If you failed first time, the plant isn't the problem — the conditions probably were.
