I've grown several varieties within the Bromeliad family and have some observations to share. exotic appearance that transforms any indoor or outdoor space varies noticeably between them, more than catalogue descriptions suggest. The care fundamentals are shared — protecting from cold draughts and air conditioning vents applies across all of them.

spider mite infestations in hot dry conditions affects some more than others, particularly in adverse conditions. I grow mine in a warm humid conservatory or heated greenhouse which works well for most varieties. bringing back indoors before first autumn frost is the clearest moment of differentiation between varieties — that's when the character of each comes through. Worth growing a few side by side if you have the space.
