Slow start but a stunning finish with Magnolia
The first few months with Magnolia were underwhelming. Almost no visible growth and I questioned my decision repeatedly. Then something shifted — I think getting keeping a mulch-free collar immediately around the trunk right was the turning point.

Displayed in a wildlife garden with native species it gets the attention it deserves. blossom or leaf burst in spring creating dramatic transformation was the moment it stopped being a project and became a pleasure. One thing to keep on top of: scale insects or aphids in the canopy attracting sooty mould. Everything else takes care of itself once the basics are solid.
