Container growing Dogwood — a practical guide from experience

I don't have a garden so a specimen on a lawn as a traditional statement tree is my only option for Dogwood. It absolutely works — with the right attention to staking correctly with a low stake to allow the trunk to flex and strengthen you can get excellent results in containers.

canopy habitat for birds, insects, and wildlife is fully achievable even in a pot. bare winter silhouette revealing branch structure and bark is just as impressive in a container as it would be in the ground, possibly more so because the plant is at closer viewing distance. The main issue to watch in containers: scale insects or aphids in the canopy attracting sooty mould. Happens faster than in the ground. Highly recommend for balcony and patio gardeners.
