A year of growing Cherry Blossom — detailed seasonal notes
Here are my notes from twelve months of growing Cherry Blossom:
Spring: full canopy providing shade and habitat in summer. This was the moment that confirmed the whole venture. I focused on staking correctly with a low stake to allow the trunk to flex and strengthen during this period which set up the rest of the year.
significant impact on the microclimate and character of a garden developed steadily through the warmer months. verticillium wilt causing branch dieback on susceptible species appeared in summer and required prompt treatment. The plant in a boundary or avenue planting in a larger space performed better than I'd expected for the position. Overall: a rewarding year. The investment of attention is paid back generously.
