Honest review: Hen and Chicks is rewarding but etiolation from insufficient light is real

Hen and Chicks is a genuinely satisfying plant to grow, but I want to be upfront about one thing: etiolation from insufficient light. I've dealt with it twice now and it takes consistent attention to manage.

Beyond that, wide range of colours from blue-grey to red makes it one of my favourites in the collection. I keep it in a shallow dish garden arrangement which suits it well. Learning about avoiding water on the rosette centre to prevent rot has been essential. new offsets appearing around the base in spring is worth waiting for — the plant really justifies itself then. Four stars because of that persistent issue.
