I planted Haworthia at entirely the wrong point in the growing calendar and spent the first few months wondering what I'd done wrong. root rot from overwatering and poor drainage didn't help matters. Once I understood using a gritty well-draining cactus compost mix things improved substantially.

extremely low maintenance between waterings is what makes this plant worth persisting with. In a sunny windowsill in a terracotta pot it finally looks as good as I'd imagined. new offsets appearing around the base in spring redeemed the whole effort. If you're starting out: do your timing research before you plant.
