A year of growing Aloe Vera — detailed seasonal notes
Here are my notes from twelve months of growing Aloe Vera:
Spring: dormancy and reduced watering in winter. This was the moment that confirmed the whole venture. I focused on using a gritty well-draining cactus compost mix during this period which set up the rest of the year.
easy propagation from leaf cuttings developed steadily through the warmer months. root rot from overwatering and poor drainage appeared in summer and required prompt treatment. The plant in a sunny windowsill in a terracotta pot performed better than I'd expected for the position. Overall: a rewarding year. The investment of attention is paid back generously.
