I nearly gave up on Hydrangea after three months of mediocre results. Then I focused properly on mulching around the base annually to feed and retain moisture and within a few weeks the difference was dramatic.

It now lives in a low-maintenance foundation planting around a house and has genuinely transformed that spot. wide range from ground-covering species to large specimens is even more impressive in person than I expected from photos. summer flowering on the current season's growth was spectacular — worth every bit of patience. If you're struggling with yours, mulching around the base annually to feed and retain moisture is almost certainly the issue.
