I keep it in a cottage garden mixed planting with lavender which is perfect for it. pruning to an outward-facing bud at a 45-degree angle was the thing I got lucky getting right early. hips forming in autumn for wildlife interest stopped me in my tracks the first time I saw it. black spot fungal disease on the leaves is a real thing — just check regularly and deal with it quickly.
