Started New Dawn at the wrong time — lessons learned

I planted New Dawn at entirely the wrong point in the growing calendar and spent the first few months wondering what I'd done wrong. powdery mildew in humid summers didn't help matters. Once I understood applying rose-specific granular fertiliser in early spring things improved substantially.

In a large terracotta pot on a sunny patio it finally looks as good as I'd imagined. bare canes in winter showing the plant's architecture redeemed the whole effort.
