Beginner success with Double Delight — here is what helped

As a complete beginner I was nervous about starting with Double Delight. It turned out to be more forgiving than I expected, as long as I paid attention to deep watering at the base rather than overhead.

I grow mine in a cottage garden mixed planting with lavender which is working really well. strong disease-resistant root stock was a genuine surprise — I didn't expect it to look or perform like that. bare canes in winter showing the plant's architecture has been the highlight so far. My biggest mistake early on was ignoring black spot fungal disease on the leaves, which I'd recommend addressing immediately.
