As a complete beginner I was nervous about starting with Black Baccara. It turned out to be more forgiving than I expected, as long as I paid attention to deadheading spent blooms to encourage reblooming.

I grow mine in a trellis or pergola for climbing varieties which is working really well. exceptional fragrance on warm afternoons was a genuine surprise — I didn't expect it to look or perform like that. peak flowering through midsummer has been the highlight so far. My biggest mistake early on was ignoring rose dieback from hard winter frosts, which I'd recommend addressing immediately.
