Someone gave me Windmill Palm as a birthday gift and I barely knew what it was. Two years later it's my most treasured plant and I've spent more time researching it than I'd care to admit.

The key discovery was avoiding cutting healthy green fronds as this stresses the plant — once that clicked, the plant transformed. long-lived structure that becomes more impressive over decades is what gets mentioned every time anyone visits. I keep it in a large decorative pot as a patio centrepiece which works perfectly. new frond production visible in spring and early summer is when I understand why this plant has such devoted followers. root bound decline in pots left too long without repotting is the one ongoing challenge but it's worth the effort.
