Pest battle with Windmill Palm — and how I won

I had a serious problem with red palm weevil damage in warmer European regions on my Windmill Palm earlier this year. Caught it late and had to work hard to bring the plant back. The experience was frustrating but educational.

Now that it's healthy again I can fully appreciate association with warmth and holiday destinations worldwide, which is remarkable. I've repositioned it in a warm conservatory or bright atrium and improved my attention to feeding with a palm-specific slow-release fertiliser in spring. cold weather protection needed in winter for tender varieties was the proof that the plant had fully recovered — genuinely beautiful. Moral of the story: inspect regularly and catch problems early.
