The propagation success I didn't expect with Pygmy Date Palm
I started with one Pygmy Date Palm and now have four, all from propagation. The process is straightforward once you understand avoiding cutting healthy green fronds as this stresses the plant — something I picked up from trial and error rather than any guide.
I display them in a sheltered sunny courtyard or walled garden which shows off remarkable toughness once properly established at its best. best planting and repotting in late spring as soil warms is when they're most impressive. crown damage and death in severe or prolonged frost has been my main challenge across all of them, but it's manageable now that I know what to look for. A genuinely generous plant if you let it be.
