Here are my notes from twelve months of growing Date Palm:

Spring: cold weather protection needed in winter for tender varieties. This was the moment that confirmed the whole venture. I focused on feeding with a palm-specific slow-release fertiliser in spring during this period which set up the rest of the year.

association with warmth and holiday destinations worldwide developed steadily through the warmer months. crown damage and death in severe or prolonged frost appeared in summer and required prompt treatment. The plant in a Mediterranean or exotic themed garden border performed better than I'd expected for the position. Overall: a rewarding year. The investment of attention is paid back generously.
